The 790 now feels like it actually HAS a steering damper.
In my opinion, the 890 is what they made after the initial issues were discovered in the 790. Both Duke and Adv. The 890, while a little more expensive, is going to be a longer-lived bike on average I bet just because they made the mistakes on the 790s first, went back to the drawing board a bit, and came up with the 890s. clamjumpr • 2 yr. ago.
Nov 17, 2019. #1. I have a KTM 790 Adventure and so far am happy with the bike but there's a pile of clutch failures being reported by owners. And worse than that, KTM is refusing to accept liability leaving owners in some cases with a major bill for engine rebuild. May 24, 2010. Oddometer: 55. Location: Lake Isabella, CA. My 2020 790 adventure with 22,000 miles recently would not start. The starter relay would click but not turn over. I could start the bike by shorting from battery positive to starter relay output. It started that way quickly.

Having experienced most of the common failures on the 790 (mine is a 2019 with only around 17k KM on it. 3rd clutch, 2nd set of cams, 2nd O2 sensor, 2nd rear brake ABS sensor, rebuilt shock, etc.. etc..), I had been pretty lucky with electronics.. up until a trip a week and a half ago.

Listen up fellow inmates with the KTM 890 (& 790 too) cold start issue: according to the NHTSA rep I have been dealing with, Santiago Moladano, the NHTSA is data driven and if they only have a couple of complaints about an issue, that issue is going to die.
